Yesterday (Monday) Taylor was working so I had to find something to occupy my time during the day! I talked to the fam for Mother's Day in the morning (8am on Monday morning here was 6pm Sunday night in Nashville). And we even got a 3 way conferece call working on Skype with me, my cousin in Philadelphia, and my grandma, cousins, and aunt and uncle in Sarasota, FL. Technology is such an amazing thing! The cameras wouldn't work with the conference call, but it worked great to be able to talk to everyone!
I then went to the gym for a bit. I stopped by Taylor's work after the gym (it is literally in the parking lot of the gym) and it was starting to rain so I was looking for a ride back to his room if he was free. He was in a meeting or something so I just left...but he came home at night and said, yeah, I heard you stopped by...they told me my "off duty supervisor" was here! It took me a second and I said, wait...me??? He said that's what we call the wives here...haha...what an appropriate name!!!
I then went back to the room to eat lunch, shower, and finish the movie I fell asleep in the night before. So as I was making Easy Mac (I know...you're jealous...my options were very limited) I decided to go ahead and dry my hair so I'd be ready to watch my movie. Bad call...apparently Taylor's room can't handle the microwave and the hairdryer running at the same time. It has been awhile since I've worried about blowing fuses so I didn't even think about it! I thought I saw the fuse box...behind the refridgerator! Really?? Who puts a fuse box behind the refridgerator!? So...I, by myself used my big muscles and moved the refridgerator...pryed the door open with a knife and sure enough...it was the fuse box! Problem solved...clearly men designed the building. Anyway...finally ate my Easy Mac, which was pretty gross. Maybe because it sat in the microwave half way through cooking for about 20-30 minutes while I found the fuse...and then it finished cooking or maybe just because it was Easy Mac!?! I'm not really sure.
I then headed down to Songtan to go get a pedicure. Now, I had seen in an ad that they had a Dr. Fish treatment which looked like you just put your feet in a pool of minnows and they nibble at your feet. I thought it sounded disgusting and I would not try it. But as I got thinking...I'm in Korea, I'll try something different...although I think they offer it other places because people told me they had heard of it before. I've never seen it anywhere...so I figured I'd try it here! So I did! And yes, the idea of it is still gross...the fish eat the dead skin off your feet, yuck, I know! It is like a big pool of fish and you sit on the edge and put your feet in and the fish swarm your feet and nibble! It tickles quite a bit...but I'm not real ticklish on my feet so it didn't really bother me! See below :)
Aaaand close up!
Anyway...I sat for about 15 or 20 minutes in there and chatted with the girl who was going to do my nails...Nick (they all take American names...I'm not sure why). She was very nice and was visiting the US for the first time next month. She said she learned English by studying a lot of books on her own and watching lots of American movies! She spoke very good English and did an excellent job on the pedicure. She took about an hour and a half and I think my foot might be a whole size smaller too!! Ha, but really she was excellent. I'm not sure how much the fish actually did...but it was an experience to say I did it!
We watched a few movies last night...Eurotrip (that was Taylor's pick) then we attempted Duplicity...but we got a crappy copy...so we watched Australia instead. Neither of us really got into the movie and ended up falling asleep in the middle anyway...I may try to watch it again because I heard it was a good movie. I can't remember if I've mentioned on the blog or not, but there all kinds of movie stores in Songtan where you get 6 for $20! So Taylor's collection has grown quite a bit. We went the other night and got 6...we've watched most of them so far! Sometimes you get crappy burned copies...but at $3 a copy, you win some, you lose some! I'm going to go down one afternoon and get a bunch of classic Disney movies that I've always wanted to own...but never had the extra $20 to buy each time they're released from the Disney Vault.
Anyway, that's all for today. It's nasty and rainy today. If it clears up a bit I might try to go to the commisary for some milk and cereal. I finally got my temporary rations card so I'm allowed in those top secret places :) Anyway, I'll update later! Taylor is off Wednesday (besides some afternoon meetings) and supposed to be off Thursday (we're supposed to be going to the DMZ) but he just found out about some Police Week ceremony he's supposed to be at...so I'll let him figure all that out!
I give you major props for going ahead with the minnows, but Katie....ewwww. :)
ReplyDeleteYou should finish that Australia movie too! I think it gets much better the second half, definitely a lot more going on.
Love you and miss you!
i know...ewwww...i agree! i wouldn't say i'd do it again...didn't see enough benefit from it to justify the grossness! :)
ReplyDeletei'll try to finish the movie...i had heard it was good...the first part was just tough to get into!
