Not a whole lot to update, but I did go into Songtan yesterday without much luck finding anything I had to have. In fact the only thing I even bought was a little sports/hiking type bag/fanny pack...although you won't find it on my fanny. Thankfully, that trend ended a long time ago...the last one I think I had I wore at Disney World with my Characters Autograph book in it ready to be pulled out at a moments notice!! This one has a nice shoulder strap included inside. Taylor got the same one yesterday...it's his "man purse" he will proudly tell you!
The other thing I was excited about yesterday was looking at housing for Aviano Italy! On a military computer Taylor has access to the military housing website. It is not military/government housing, but rather the vacancies in the area that the housing department can help guide you. So I went down to Taylor's office and got to look at the options that are available right now, just to help get an idea of my future home for the next couple years! I think I'm reassured after seeing it...I think. There are some decent size places, which I was worried about. A few have cabinets in the kitchen, but a majority just have a gaping open spot where it would make sense for cabinets to go...but they don't include them in the housing. I saw mostly tile/wood floors, so rugs would probably be a good purchase! Most of the places are quite old with lovely 80's tile on the walls and in the bathrooms. And speaking of bathrooms I'll share my embarrassing moment of the day. I'm sitting in Taylor's office, that he shares with about 4 other people plus lots of walk in visitors, and I'm clicking away at his computer going through all the housing options and looking through all the pictures of the different houses and apartments. I notice in every bathroom there are two toilets...one that looks just like a urinal. So I ignorantly say, "All of these bathrooms have a urinal in them along with a toilet...that is so strange!!!" As his office breaks out in laughter his Master Sergeant informs me that it is a bidet...and they all have them in Europe...and my comment just made his day. Oh man, my face was so red, although I found it quite funny myself. I have so much to still experience and learn!
Anyway, that's all for today...we have night two of American Idol tonight :)
P.S. I just have to add to the post that I just received a phone call from South Korean immigration on Taylor's cell phone saying they have record that I arrived in the country on Sunday and to ask me if I have felt any flu symptoms since I have been here. And if I do have any symptoms within the next week to please report them to the authorities! They are hardcore!!!
Hey Katie!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you made it safely. Are you going to get a chance to visit any historical sites while you're there? There might be a tour or so ething you and Taylor could take. Curious to see if you try any traditional S. Korean cusine. Wow, you're going to Italy too? That's super exciting. What will you be getting to do there? You lead quite the adventurous life.

In the Czech Republic none of the kitchens came with cabinets and the only cabinets you bought were these cheap fake plastic wood ones. So different from America where you can pick oak, cherry wood, etc. cabinets and granite counter tops. We are so spoiled! :) I'm glad you don't have swine flu. I love hearing about your experiences there! - Diane
ReplyDeleteWe went to a Palace in Seoul and a fortress in Suwon on Friday and there are a few more we're going to try to see. I have yet to have real Korean cuisine...but I will at some point before leaving :)
ReplyDeleteI know we sure are spoiled over in the US!! We're going to have to get some cuboards or something at least for a little kitchen storage. It's funny because it seems so logical to me for there to be something there...but clearly that is not the case!!
